Wendy Cannon is a kindergarten teacher but her true passion is being a watercolor artist. Her subjects include people, animals, landscapes, seascapes, and florals all in a realistic style. Wendy is mostly self-taught, however she has taken several workshops and classes, including at Maine College of Art. Stained glass and mural painting are other areas in which Wendy dabbles. She painted a mural in the entrance of Governor John Fairfield Elementary School in Saco, which the children enjoy.
Wendy lives in Southern, Maine with her husband, two children and two cats, all of whom have been pressed into service as subjects of her paintings. The use of vibrant colors and realism in her landscapes is a hallmark of Wendy’s work. Her pet portraits capture the lively “personality” of each animal, and she paints the shoreline near her home expressing the spirit of the beaches. Wendy’s paintings “just capture the illusion of life.” (Biddeford/Saco/OOB Courier, May 6, 2004)
Wendy is a member of Saco Bay Artists. In her first outdoor art show, Wendy won First Runner Up and the Purchase Prize Award at the Saco Sidewalk Art Festival in 2006, Purchase Prize at the Sanford Summah Daze Art Festival, 2006, and at the Saco Bay Artists’ August show, Wendy won Honorable Mention. At the Saco Bay Artists’ Saco Museum Show, she won second place.
Wendy plans to share her time creating art with part time teaching. Her work can be seen at Gallery 265 in Biddeford, Maine, as well as various outdoor summer shows.
